OAT & CASPer
CASPer
CASPer (Computer-based Assessment Sampling Personal Characteristics) is a required test for Waterloo School of Optometry and Université de Montréal to assess an applicant's non-cognitive skills and response to ethical issues.

CASPer is only written once per application and results are valid for one year.

FORMAT
-
90 minute online assessment (can be completed at home) with optional 15 minute break halfway through the test

Total of 12 prompts: either video or word-based
-
3 questions following each scenario with total of 5 minutes to answer questions ​

Optometry Admissions Test
The OAT (Optometry Admissions Test) is a required component to apply to optometry schools in both Canada and the United States. The multiple choice exam assesses the academic ability of candidates.

OAT can be written as many times as you would like, but with a 90-day waiting period between scheduled tests. The fee is $450 USD.

FORMAT
Approximately 4 hours 50 minutes, with optional 15-minute break

Survey of Natural Sciences (90 minutes), includes biology, general chemistry and organic chemistry

Reading Comprehension (60 minutes), comprised of 3 passages and 10-17 questions based on each

Optional 30-minute break

Physics (50 minutes)

Quantitative Reasoning (45 minutes)

SIGN-UP
In order to apply to take the OAT, you must obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Once you have a PIN, then you can apply to take the OAT at a prometric centre near you.
